About

Drawing on decades of multidisciplinary experience, NCCHC Resources provides customized insights and guidance that equip your facility to provide constitutionally appropriate quality correctional health care.

Mission: To provide comprehensive customized consulting and technical assistance services that help to elevate the quality of correctional health care.

HISTORY
In the early 1970s, the American Medical Association conducted a study on U.S. jails and found that they suffered from inadequate, disorganized health services and a lack of national standards. In collaboration with other organizations, the AMA went on to launch a program that in 1983 developed into our parent company — the National Commission on Correctional Health Care — whose early mission was to evaluate and establish policies and programs for the correctional health care field, which was so clearly in need of assistance.

Since that time, NCCHC’s accomplishments have included the pioneering Standards for Health Services, which outline guidelines for the management of correctional health services systems, mental health, and opioid treatment programs; a variety of national accreditation and professional certification programs; and a wide array of educational programming, publications, national conferences, and networking opportunities.

In 2014, NCCHC Resources was created to meet the sharply increasing demand for high-quality consulting, technical assistance, and related support services for correctional health care providers.

We support NCCHC’S mission to improve the quality of health care in prisons, jails, and juvenile confinement facilities nationwide.

NCCHC Resources is the consulting arm of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care

NCCHC establishes standards for health services in correctional facilities, operates a voluntary accreditation program for institutions that meet those standards, produces resource publications, conducts educational conferences and offers certification for correctional health professionals. NCCHC is supported by the major national organizations representing the fields of health, mental health, law and corrections. Each supporting organization has named a liaison to the NCCHC board of directors to create a robust, multidisciplinary governing structure that reflects the complexities of correctional health care.
